A CHILDREN’S cancer charity has been presented with £1,000 raised by a Royal Wootton Bassett nursery.

Toddlers at the Learning Curve Day Nursery presented Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement charity (CALM) chairman Richard Crowley with a hand-painted £1,000 banner this week to symbolise their efforts.

CALM works in Swindon and Marlborough and provides support to families of children receiving treatment at the Great Western Hospital and is run by parents who have all had a child diagnosed with cancer.

Learning Curve has supported CALM since 2010 and has raised on average more than £1,000 each year for the charity through sponsored events such as cake sales.

Richard praised the nursery and public for the support they give to the charity.

“It’s fantastic to see how much effort the nursery has gone to once again to help us, we’re incredibly grateful,” he said.

He added: “I think people are invested in us as a charity because we are all parents, we’ve been through this, we’re helping each other out, we help families in Swindon and the surrounding areas.”

Richard was a finalist at the Pride of Swindon Awards 2015, held last week at STEAM.

CALM also won a vote to receive a grant of £1,000 from the Zurich Community Trust at the awards.
