Young people in Pewsey got their skates on to mark the launch of the Vale’s Local Youth Network on Saturday with an ice rink in the Co-op car park taking centre stage.

Between 1pm and 7pm teenagers could enjoy a free half-an-hour session on the 10 metre by 10 metre synthetic ice rink.

The event was funded by the Pewsey Area Board which gave a grant of £1,060 and Pewsey Parish Council which donated £100.

A post on the Pewsey Local Youth Network Facebook page reads: “Thank you to everyone involved in the skating.

“Thank you to the Co Operative for agreeing to let us use the car park. Thank you to everyone who gave up their Saturday to help, thank you to Pewsey Local Youth Network, Wiltshire Council, Pewsey Parish Council, PCAP and Pewsey Area Board.

“Thank you to everyone who turned up and participated and to TJays who spent hours setting their equipment up and looking after us today. Thank you to Pewsey Carnival.

“Thank you every one for a great day.”

After skaters worked up an appetite on the rink, they were able to enjoy barbecue food provided by The Vale Butchers.

the Pewsey LYN was set up to arrange activities across the community after Pewsey’s well-used youth club The Shak closed at the end of September.

Karen Brown was appointed as the areas community youth officer in the autumn and has been supporting LYN and coordinating the activities across the Vale.

A monthly youth club SN9 is now being held at the fire station, for 11-18 year olds and the LYN is encouraging young people to get in touch with ideas for future events, visits or activities.

Woodborough Social Club is looking to host a six week street dance project on a Friday between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

Anyone interested should get in contact with the LYN via their Facebook page www.facebook.com/PewseyLYN
