Pewsey Primary School has received a letter from the Minister of State for Schools to congratulate staff and pupils on their success.

David Laws’ letter praised the school for its achievement of 100 per cent of Year 6 pupils gaining a 4B or above in reading and maths and a Level 4 or above in writing.

This achievement meant the school came 96th out of the top 150 schools in the country.

Mr Laws also highlighted the school’s work to guide disadvantaged pupils and prepare them for secondary school.

He noted the improvements made in the Key Stage 2 results achieved by disadvantaged pupils at the school since 2011.

Head Nicola Gilbert said: “After a period of three or four years of determined hard work and dedication, it is so rewarding to receive this kind of recognition.

“We are very proud of all the pupils in the school, and lucky to have such an expert team of teaching staff and governors to guide them.

“We are looking forward to continuing in the same vein so watch this space.”

Teachers used the letter as an opportunity to encourage pupils at the school to discuss the structure of governance in the UK and the impact it has on society.

Pupils from KS2 are planning to hold live debates on issues that affect their school life. School council members will lead the discussions, which will focus on how they can help improve the school.

The school came in the top four per cent of schools in the country in January with three years of consistently improving SATS results.

It was also named in the Sunday Times list of top state schools in the South West.
