Children and adults alike enjoyed all the fun of the fair when Great Bedwyn Primary School’s playground was transformed into a Winter Wonderland.

A 12m x 12m synthetic ice rink took pride of place at Saturday’s event, which was organised to raise money for the school and pre-school.

Amber Carling, a committee member on both the playgroup committee and the Great Bedwyn School Association, said: “It was busy, with a steady flow of people throughout the day, which was nice because it wasn’t too crowded at any point.

“Just to see the smiling faces of all the children made it all worthwhile.

“The ice rink was just the right size. It wasn’t too big and overwhelming and the synthetic ice is easier to skate on.

“We’re really pleased with how it went. Everybody who organised it enjoyed themselves and everyone who came along seemed to be enjoying it too.”

Revellers also enjoyed fun fair rides, stalls selling hot food, mulled wine, hot chocolate, sweet treats and lots of other winter goodies.

As well as Bedwyn villagers, the event attracted people from Marlborough, Hungerford and the surrounding area.

Mrs Carling, whose four-year-old twin daughters Martha and Rose are in the school’s reception class, said: “What was so nice was that the whole community got involved. Local businesses sponsored the rink and I think the primary and pre-school coming together to raise funds worked really well.

“Lots of people on the day were telling me how much they enjoyed themselves but I’ve also had loads of texts and messages since from people saying what a wonderful time they had and that they’d never seen anything like it in the village before.”
