North Newnton has its first community defibrillator after a year of fundraising.

The parish, near Pewsey, started fundraising in December 2013 and reached its £2,000 target almost a year later with the help of a £500 grant by Pewsey Area Board.

The machine has now been mounted onto a wall at Hilcott Village Hall.

Carolyn Whistler, chairman of North Newnton Parish Council, said: “We decided to follow in the footsteps of Pewsey and Woodborough and other villages nearby that have installed defibrillators.

“We do hope that it doesn’t have to be used but it’s good to know that it is there.

“We’re thinking of fundraising for a second one for near the Woodbridge Inn but this is in the very early stages – raising that amount of money is a lot of hard work.”
