Young people in Pewsey have been letting their imaginations run free for a film project organised as part of the new approach to youth activities in Wiltshire.

The teenagers worked with professional company Create Studios to create a clay model animation about road safety.

The event was organised by Karen Brown, community youth officer for the Pewsey area, Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre and Create Studios. There will be more opportunities for people aged 13 to 19 in Pewsey to get involved in the free film taster sessions in February, with a chance to take part in a longer course later in the year.

Ms Brown said: “Young people can suggest activities that can be funded from the Local Youth Network funds, which are held by the area board.

“You might like the idea of horse riding, BMX and skateboarding, joining a sport club or going to Pewsey fire station, the new venue for the SN9 youth club. We want to hear from you.”

Members of the community have already responded to a call for volunteer drivers to ensure young people can attend activities.

Once trained, the drivers can help transport young people on a rota basis to activities in the mainly rural area.

Laura Mayes, cabinet member for children’s services, pictured, said: “There are some great ideas for youth activities across Wiltshire and this fun event with the help of professional filmmakers is one very good example of providing an activity that young people really want to participate in. Congratulations to all involved.”
