PROSPECT Hospice is looking for qualified complementary therapists as the charity gears up towards the launch of its new Outpatient Centre at Savernake Hospital.

The charity offers complementary therapies for patients, their carers and recently bereaved people.

They work alongside other treatments to promote relaxation, comfort and emotional wellbeing for people at a particularly stressful time in their lives.

Prospect is looking to expand its team of 16 volunteer therapists as it prepares to open the new facility in June 2015.

All of the complementary therapists are volunteers and are qualified practitioners who work alongside the hospice’s patient care teams.

The most commonly used treatments are aromatherapy, a gentle massage using essential oils, and reflexology, a specialised form of massage which applies gentle pressure to points on hands and feet and can help to improve sleep and ease aches and pains.

Phillipa Huxtable, the hospice’s head of voluntary services, said: “We have the opportunity to bring services including complementary therapies closer to the people of Marlborough and the surrounding area.

“There will be a dedicated space for therapies, with everything that is needed to help people feel the benefits.

“This brings great opportunities for new therapists to become involved.”

Volunteer therapists will need a professional qualification and experience in two or more of aromatherapy, reflexology, reiki, and Indian head massage.

Ms Huxtable said: “With this role we offer excellent support and opportunities to volunteer as part of a team, build on your experience, learn from others and to share therapies.”

The hospice needs to raise £75,000 to open the facility and hopes to reach this target by March 31, 2015.

Once the unit is built, patients from the Marlborough and Pewsey area will be able to access day treatments, including physiotherapy and occupational therapy, on their doorstep rather than having to travel to Wroughton.
