CHOIR member Anne Wardell will sing in front of 82,000 rugby fans live and millions more on television at Twickenham today.

She and the rest of the Games Maker Choir, made up of 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games volunteers, will perform at England’s autumn international clash with South Africa.

Mrs Wardell, 59, of Manningford Bruce, said: “It’s a huge honour to be able to perform at an iconic venue such as Twickenham and for a sell-out crowd of 82,000 rugby fans.

“I’m really excited, as Twickenham is the home of rugby, but it is also a bit daunting as the performance will be shown live on TV.”

The choir will be providing pre-match and half-time entertainment, as well as performing the South African national anthem, which has four verses in four different languages.

The choir has also performed at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Join In Anniversary Games, Sport Relief and the Tour de France.

However, Mrs Wardell is no stranger to singing at a rugby match; she was with the choir last November for the semi-finals of the Rugby League World Cup at Wembley Stadium.

As Saturday’s game is a sell-out, husband Chris, 67, and children Paula Chandler, 41, and Chris, 40, have not got tickets and will be watching her performance on the television.

Mrs Wardell travels to London every weekend to rehearse with the choir. It also meets up for parties and charity events.

She said: “It’s been a wonderful bonus to have made all of these new friends all over the country. The camaraderie is fantastic and I think that this closeness helps us to sing even better together too.”
