The Shalbourne Classic Car Show settled into its new home on Sunday with more than 250 cars and motorbikes on display.

For the first time in its seven year history the event was held at the village’s sports ground off Rivar Road, moving from Shalbourne Manor.

Usually the event is used to raise money for the village church but this year’s profits will be put towards the Pavilion Appeal, which launched earlier this year to provide for new accommodation at the sports ground.

The project requires £200,000 for and before the event on Sunday, which raised more than £12,000, they had reached £30,000.

Louise Triance, a member of the Pavilion committee, said: “I think the space worked incredibly well. The manor is beautiful but all of the cars and bike had to be spread out so I think it worked well here that we could have them all together.

“This will be a massive boost to the pavilion fundraising.

"Choosing to use the classic car show to fundraise for the pavilion show how much the village is behind the project.

“Tennis, football, cricket and boules are all played at the sports ground and there’s quite an age range that take part in activities so it should be a well used local facility.”

The event attracted a huge crowd of people with 600 visitor’s cars passing through the gates by mid afternoon.

As well as cars and bikes, visitors enjoyed a 90ft bouncy castle, barbeque, beer tent, champagne and Pimm's bar, a coffee bus, cream teas, more than 20 craft stalls and a popular hog roast which sold out.

Mrs Triance said: “It was a fantastic day, I don’t think it could have gone any better.

“Obviously there were lots of car enthusiasts but there were also a lot of families too and not just form Shalbourne but from Newbury, Hungerford, Marlborough and Pewsey areas too.”

The next fundraising event in aid of the pavilion will be the fireworks display on November 1.
