Stormy weather could not stop the masses turning out for the Pewsey Carnival wheelbarrow race last night.

The event, formerly know as the wheelbeero race, is the second of the three main events during carnival fortnight, with the four-legged race taking place last Thursday and the procession making its way through the village on Saturday.

This year was the first time that two events were due to be staged, after changes to licensing legislation meant entrants were prohibited from drinking alcohol if they race.

Teams in fancy dress, including chimney sweeps, cowboys and Queen, made their way around the village in decorated wheelbarrows stopping at ten stations on the way to drink a pint of beer or non-alcoholic drink.

Pewsey Neighbourhood Police Team wrote on their Facebook page: "Pewsey Wheelbarrow race went well. One direction notice to leave issued."
