Pewsey Heritage Centre is getting ready to open its doors to visitors once again following a major refurbishment.

Visitors will be able to see the new-look museum and its fully refurbished displays for the first time on Saturday, April 12, between 10am and 4pm.

There will be activities such as a treasure hunt, the chance to have a go at X-raying artifacts and music and drama performances from Pewsey Male Voice Choir, the Pewsey Belles, Pewsey Vale Amateur Dramatics Society.

The centre has been closed for almost two and a half years while work was carried out funded by the Redcliffe Homes community benefit contribution scheme.

Improvements, include new displays and items, a new roof, heating, better signs and longer opening hours.

Manager Mike Asbury said: “We’re very proud of the changes we’ve made to the museum.

“We’ve dramatically changed our displays, making them more interesting and engaging. We think the museum is now an even better place to visit.

“The work done to date is just the first part of our refurbishment programme so we’ll be making the museum even better in the future.”

Pewsey Heritage Centre details the social, agricultural and industrial history of the Pewsey Vale over the last 200 years and is run entirely by volunteers.

Paul Cowan, chairman of the Pewsey Heritage Centre trustees, said: “We are always looking for new people to help out.

“Volunteers don’t need any particular experience, and could come from any age or background.

“In particular we’d be keen to hear from people who might be able to help cleaning and polishing artifacts, setting up displays, welcoming visitors and doing research.”

The new opening hours for the museum are Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
