Paramedics feared for their safety when they were verbally abused while attending an incident in Kingsbury Street, Marlborough, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At 3.29am on Sunday an ambulance crew were called to an 18-year-old woman having breathing difficulties.

While treating her, a crowd formed and and a number of people were abusive so the paramedics withdrew and requested police attendance.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “Even one assault is one too many and staff are continually encouraged to report any type of aggression. “ After the incident the teenager was taken to Great Western Hospital.

Sergeant Barry Reed, of Marlborough Police, said: “I’m really disappointed that the ambulance staff had to withdraw under these circumstances when the care was needed and it could have been a lot more serious.”

Anyone with information about this incident should contact police on 101.
