Thirty children at Great Bedwyn Playgroup had a couple of rather unusual visitors on Monday, two calves from David Homer’s dairy farm at Chisbury.
As well as stroking the week-old Friesians the children, to their delight, were able to take turns to bottle feed them, said manager Michelle Edwards.
The pre-school group, whose last Ofsted report said it was outstanding, invited award-winning dairy farmer Mr Homer to send along the calves because one of the current topics for the children is “growth”.
Mrs Edwards said: “The children had a fantastic time seeing and feeding the two calves as part of learning about our growth topic.
“There were 30 very excited children here ranging from age two to four and we would like to thank Mr Homer for agreeing to send along the calves with James Major to look after them.
“It was a brilliant day with the sun shining and the children loved being able to stroke the lambs and to take it in turns to bottle feed them with milk.
