Marlborough nurse so loved all her family

The mother of nurse Caroline Morley, whose death resulted in an accident verdict at an inquest last week, has spoken about the loving 28-year-old who died following a fall while her three-year-old daughter Isabella slept at their Marlborough home.

Miss Morley, who had lived in Marlborough since she was a toddler, worked as an emergency nurse practitioner at Cirencester Hospital and although she was bringing up her child still found time to attend the University of the West of England one day a week to further her career.

She had trained as a nurse at UWE, doing some of her practical training at Savernake Hospital. She qualified in 1994 with flying colours and became a staff nurse at Cirencester Hospital. Her mother Dorina said she was still planning to further her medical career at the time of her death.

In February 2005 she moved to the Minor Injuries Unit at Cirencester Hospital and made impressive progress, said a close friend and colleague.

They paid tribute at her funeral last June, saying: “It was obvious that she had such potential and I can honestly say that I have never made such a good decision and I watched her grow and blossom into an exceptional nurse. She was passionate about her career and always wanted to improve.”

In 2009 Miss Morley won a place on an emergency nurse practitioner course at UWE. Most of her colleagues were much older and more experienced, said her mother. She became the youngest person ever to qualify at UWE.

She remained devoted to her family especially Isabella who is now four and has attended the Avenue Day Nursery since she was nine months old. Mrs Morley said: “Caroline loved her family and always wanted everyone to be together at Christmas and Easter.”

She loved taking Isabella to visit family in Italy every year. Her mother is half-Italian.

Mrs Morley spoke of how her daughter “turned men’s heads” when they walked together along the High Street in Marlborough where, said Mrs Morley, Caroline wanted to spend the rest of her life.

Mrs Morley spoke of her daughter’s many friends, and the girls’ nights in she had at her home every Tuesday.

There was no prouder young mum, said Mrs Morley. “Once Caroline had Isabella she was her life, she was such a natural mother. She loved being pregnant and wanted lots more children.”

Isabella lives with Scott Guarnieri, her father and her mother’s former partner, in Marlborough but spends part of the week with Mrs Morley.

Miss Morley is buried in Marlborough cemetery with her father Aubrey, who died six years ago.
