Band to aim high in contest

THE award-winning Ald-bourne Band, who are first section national champions, can possibly claim another record for performing at least one concert every year for almost half a century.

The band will be in action at Immanuel United Reformed Church, in Upham Road, Walcot, Swindon, for the 49th year running on Sunday, starting 7pm.

This will be the band’s 49th consecutive annual concert in Immanuel Church, where the audience will have the opportunity to hear the first public airing of Aldbourne Band performing the West of England test piece, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, by Derek Bourgeois.

Chairman James Sheppard said: “The band has great expectations that our musical director David Johnson will lead us to victory in the Championship Section this year.

“The work has already started with the West of England test piece before Christmas, which will be played in Torquay on March 11, competing against other championship section bands.

Mr Sheppard said Aldbourne needed to finish in first or second place to qualify for the national championship section finals taking place in London’s Royal Albert Hall in October.

He said: “Concertgoers at Immanuel Church on Sunday will be treated to a medley of musical talent and can expect a very enjoyable evening with a wide range of music on offer.”
