12:58pm Tuesday 28th March 2006 in Marlborough By Nigel Kerton
THE five Marlborough firefighters arrested last week have all been freed on bail for five weeks while police inquiries into alleged thefts and one racism allegation continue.
Station officer David Ward with fire fighters Alay Eyles, Graham Loney Justin Kimber and Tom Warren were arrested last Wednesday by officers investigating the theft of items from a derelict building at Savernake Hospital during a fire brigade exercise.
Police went to their homes at dawn to effect the arrests.
Mr Loney is accused of making a racial remark. Mr Ward was arrested in connection with an allegation of perveting the course of justice.
They have to surrender their police bail and return to Swindon police station on May 3.
