Marlborough farmers discover the plain life

Around 40 members and friends of Marlborough and District Farming Club enjoyed a walk around Enford Farms on Salisbury Plain at Compton, escorted by Bruce Waight who farms around 8,000 acres of MOD land.

Members were told how tenant farmers work closely with the MOD to provide access when required and have to move stock at very short notice.

The inclement weather didn’t spoil the wonderful views and wildlife, nor the presence of heavy artillery at one point. Two young Great Bustards took flight and members were amazed at their size.

The evening finished with an American supper and barbecue by kind invitation of Bruce and Lucy Waight. Richard Fry gave the vote of thanks.

The county summer lunch is at Cumberwell Golf Club on Sunday.
