COUNTERFEIT £50 notes have been used in a range of businesses across Wiltshire including a Beckhampton Pub.

The fake Scottish bank notes were used in The Waggon and Horses in Beckhampton on May 1 when two men bought drinks at the bar.

The men were in the pub in the early evening when they used the notes, which have since been reported to the police.

One of the men has been described as white, aged between 19 -24 approximately 5ft 6 inches tall with short fair hair and an Irish accent.

PC Hannah Agate said: “We have had several incidents of this nature reported and we believe they are part of a series. Enquiries are ongoing to find those responsible.”

On the same day, similar incidents were reported in Trowbridge at the Odeon, the Toby Carvery and the Kings Arms in Castle Street.

The Waggon and Horses in Beckhampton is currently closed for a refurbishment and is due to reopen on May 19.

Police urged anyone with information to contact 101 and urged people and local businesses to be vigilant when receiving money.
