UNCONVENTIONAL conservation projects using cattle to graze on land to encourage wildflowers to grow have been launched by Action for the River Kennet.
The team’s community bulb planting project has also been blooming a year after the community dug deep to plant 4,000 snake’s head fritillary bulbs in Stonebridge. ARK has spearheaded a range of campaigns to increase bee numbers and said: “We have 11 species of bumblebees, 15 species of butterfly and over 300 species of moth recorded.
“The fritillaries are another nectar source for these important pollinators, as well as being attractive to visitors.”
