GOLFERS have been working hard both on and off the Green to raise cash for the baby unit at Great Western Hospital.

During a busy year of fundraisers and events, the seniors committee at Marlborough Golf Club raised £2,500, which was presented to the hospital at the club on The Common.

The special care baby unit is a cause close to chair of the committee during 2017/18 Mike Paines after his grandson Tobias was born prematurely. Baby Tobias spent the first 10 weeks of his life on the unit under supervision of pecialist doctors and nurses.

Mr Mike Paines said: “My grandson was born at 30 weeks weighting just 2lb 6oz. My daughter and Tobias spent 10 weeks at the baby unit. It was a very scary time for the family and the reason why we were involved in the unit.

“We decided to give something back to them and raised money through charity events throughout the year, as well as a charity calendar.”

Over £2,500 was raised for the baby unit at Great Western Hospital and a cheque was present by club members to Lisa Utting of the GWH Brighter Futures appeal.
