THERE’S a buzz surrounding the launch of Bee Roadzzs, a project to increase the number of insects to the area.

Organisers have set out to make Marlborough the most bee friendly town because there are 35 UK species of bee under threat of extinction.

Four Bee Roadzzs run from Marlborough towards Avebury, Broad Hinton, Chiseldon and Pewsey alongside the A4, A345, A346 and Frees Avenue.

Local farmers, Marlborough Downs Space for Nature and Transition Marlborough have identified the stretches of farms, gardens, verges and public spaces where plants can thrive and attract creatures.

Dr. Jemma Batten, project manager of MDSFN and Bee Roadzz said: “The Bee Roadzzs project is unprecedented in the Marlborough area, and in some ways experimental as we want to learn if we can help increase pollinator numbers if we provide them with the right habitat on a big scale. Therefore, we want to encourage as many people to get involved by providing bee friendly flowers in their gardens.

To mark the launch of the project, special events are taking place next week from April 16-22 and include a talk in Marlborough town hall on Tuesday (April 17) .

An activity day is being held on April 18 in Avebury and a wildflower walk in Berwick Bassett takes place on April 22 from 10.30am.
