AN HONOURARY membership into the Marlborough and District Rotary Club has been awarded to town Mayor Mervyn Hall.
Mr Hall was welcomed into the charitable club on Monday evening (Sept 25) during a relaxed ceremony held at Marlborough Golf Club in which he also discovered more about the group's on going community work.
Among the club's recent donations include cheque for £2000 towards IT equipment for the new Marlborough St Mary's primary school.
Cedric Hollinsworth, president of the club said: “The Rotary club works very closely with the Town Council and we thought that this membership was long overdue. We have a lot of respect for their work and this will cement our relationship.”
Mayor Mervyn Hall added: “I was really pleased that they asked me to become a member. It was a very enjoyable evening and from it I hope to maintain a close relationship with the Rotary Club.”
The Rotary Club will open its doors on October 12 to show non members the variety of projects they carry out.
