Demolition work has begun on the old leisure centre in Pewsey which will make way for a new state of the art activity complex next summer.

The new Vale Health and Wellbeing Centre has an £8.4m price tag and is set to include an indoor skate park and a four lane 25m swimming pool.

Work on the site, off of Marlborough Road, Pewsey, has remained on schedule and is expected to be completed by summer 2018.

John Thomson, cabinet member with responsibility for campuses said: “This is a major investment by Wiltshire Council that will see huge benefits for the local community.

"I hope that it will encourage more people to be active and get involved in the wide range of community events, clubs and activities that will be take place at this new centre when it opens next year.”

Jerry Kunkler, chair of Pewsey Area Board, said: “The community has been at the forefront of this new facility, helping to shape it every step of the way, and I’m delighted to see that the construction has begun.

“The new centre will be a place for the community to come together to participate in the leisure activities and the many community events and clubs that will be on offer.”

While the new facility is being built, customers can access the fitness suite and exercise classes at SSI House, Fordbrook Business Centre, or the facilities at other leisure centres around the county.
