Four bikes have been stolen from a garage in Chapel Lane, Marlborough, in a theft being investigated by police.

The garage was broken into and its contents stolen between 5pm on July 22 and 7.50pm on July 25.

As well as four bikes, accessories and electronics were also taken and officers have urged witnesses who saw any suspicious activity during this time to get in touch.

The burglary occurred just days before another garage burglary was reported in Ermin Close, Baydon, Marlborough.

The offender had broken into the garage of a home when he was disturbed and fled the scene on July 31.

A drill was taken from the garage but was later found in a nearby garden and police appealed for any witnesses to get in touch by calling 101 quoting crime reference 69526.

The man was described as white, aged in his late 20s, of slim build and with dark hair.

Although the two incidents are not being investigated together, a spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “At this stage we are keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked.”

Following the bike theft, Wiltshire Police has urged Marlborough residents to be extra careful with their home security over the summer holidays.

PC Teresa Herbert said: “Understandably, the loss of these bikes has been upsetting to the owners and we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the area during this time frame. Information you have could really help our enquiries and return these bikes to the owners.

“If your home has an alarm fitted, we would encourage you to ensure the system extends to your garage. Chain tools, bikes and any other valuable equipment together using high security chain or cable and a good quality closed shackle padlock. Consider using an alarmed padlock if the alarm would be heard in your area. Please also make sure you photograph any valuable items and keep these in a secure place.”

The bike models stolen were a Boardman Air TT 9.4, a Trek 2.5 WSD, an Isaac Kelvin bike and a Moda Major.
