DEVIZES MP Claire Perry is delighted that services for passengers who use Pewsey and Bedwyn stations are on track.

Yesterday two brand new intercity express trains in a 10 car formation were at Bedwyn Station for a few minutes in the afternoon and evening as part of testing.

But they will be back soon once testing is complete so people can go on board to see the new fleet. Great Western Railway chief executive Mark Hopgood said in a letter to Ms Perry: "We will be looking to come back to Bedwyn again once all the testing is done for a platform showcase where we can show people what it is like inside, so this is not the only opportunity to see the train."

She said: "I’m so pleased that the years of work with local groups and with my neighbouring MP Richard Benyon are coming to fruition and we will shortly see improvements to our local services.

"When I was first elected in 2010 there was concern over the survival of our local train links at Bedwyn and Pewsey, especially the direct services from Bedwyn to London once electrification to Newbury was complete.

"I have been able to protect current services and get more investment at both stations, like the new footbridge at Pewsey and new shelter and car parking at Bedwyn, and from next year we will see the roll-out of brand-new bi-modal Intercity Express trains serving both Pewsey and Bedwyn with more seats, better performance and many more services from London to Pewsey."
