YEAR six pupils from Kennet Valley C of E School grilled Devizes MP Clare Perry on Brexit and the future of the UK when they visited her at the Houses of Parliament.

The children made the trip up from Marlborough to Westminster on June 27 as part of a programme to broaden their horizons away from the national curriculum.

During the day they took a tour of the historic with the MP, who was re-elected to represent the constituency last month.

As part of the visit they questioned her on her role as a parliamentarian and asked her views on some of the political issues of the moment, including the effect leaving the European Union will have on Britain’s agriculture.

Afterwards she said she had been impressed by their grasp of politics and the issues faced by the country.

“It is always a pleasure to be able to meet local schools and show them around Parliament. I was hugely impressed with the children’s questions, which showed a mature awareness of current political issues,” she said.

“I was certainly given a good grilling on a range of topics, and am delighted to see children so engaged with politics.”
