THE first ever woman to be the captain for Marlborough Golf Club has raised raised more than £1,880 for Prospect Hospice over the last year.

Over the last 12 months, Trish King, from Bradbury, has organised a series of fundraisers for the hospice, including an auction, a quiz night, a raffle and some golf competitions.

For the golf fundraisers, the 65-year-old, who is following the steps of her father who was captain of the club in 1983, encouraged every golfer to pay a £1 fine if they hit the ball into the bunker on the final hole of the course in what was a hugely successful year.

"I really appreciate everyone’s help and I am so happy and proud to have raised so much for such a good cause," she said.

"At first I was worried about what people would think of breaking from tradition and having a female golf captain. I was not sure what to expect, but I have been overwhelmed by the support I have received both in being club captain and in raising money for Prospect Hospice."

Mrs King has played golf for over thirty years and was Lady Captain of the club in 2009 and was responsible for organising events they put on.

Mike Kennedy, community fundraiser for Prospect Hospice in the Marlborough area, said: "We are thrilled by continued support of Marlborough Golf Club and all of the members. We want to say a huge thank you to Trish for raising such an incredible amount; her father would be incredibly proud, and rightly so."

Since 1980, Prospect Hospice has been providing end-of-life care service for 300,000 people.
