THE company building 175 homes in Marlborough has chosen not to build a hotel planned for the land itself and wants to find a new developer for that part of the scheme.

Planning permission to build 175 homes and a hotel was granted by Wiltshire Council to the Crown Estate last year and last month the 33 acres of land off Salisbury Road was sold to Redrow Homes.

However Redrow have now decided to split the housing development, 40 per cent of which will be affordable housing, from the hotel and are looking for a new developer, meaning that they will now have to ask Wiltshire Council for planning permission to do this.

A Redrow spokesman said: “Redrow is in early discussions to sell part of the site to a hotel operator subject to them getting planning consent.

“We are unable to give any further information at this stage until details are confirmed.

“All parties will continue to work closely with the local community to ensure the scheme helps meet local housing needs and benefits Marlborough residents.”

The proposal also included open space, play areas, woodland planting and a wild flower meadow, along with environmental protection for local wildlife.

The development will also provide financial contributions to improve local infrastructure including £700,000 towards St John’s Academy and £80,000 towards a local GP surgery.
