SONGS from film and TV were brought to life by hundreds of schoolchildren who put on a spectacular performance on Saturday at the Marlborough Dance Festival.

A total of 242 children from 13 schools in the Marlborough area put on 16 performances, once for the matinee and the other in the evening, at St John's Marlborough in front of a sell-out audience.

And after six weeks of hard work and graft, the organiser for the whole production, Sally Bere, said each and every child, ranging from Year 2 pupils to Year 9, did themselves proud.

"It was a brilliant team effort, a superb illustration of community spirit amongst the schools and a hugely impressive performance that wowed the crowd," she said.

"I am so proud of all of them. They all had huge smiles on their faces and loved every minute of it. The costumes were so colourful and the variety on show was fantastic.

"Whether it was Singing in the Rain, High School Musical, Rock Around the Clock, Ghostbusters or the Lion King, all of it was just wonderful.

"The schools had six weeks to come up with their own routines and performances and did a great job and they all cheered everyone on which was lovely.

"I am just sad that it is all over. It took a lot of preparation but we did it. Now I just have to plan next year's event."

The list of schools included Marlborough St Mary's, both infants and junior, St John's Marlborough, Easton Royal Academy, Oare Primary School, Baydon St Nicholas Primary School, St Michael’s School Aldbourne, Ogbourne Primary School, Preshute Primary School, St Katharine's Primary School, Burbage Primary School, Shalbourne Primary School and Great Bedwyn Primary School.
