THE organisers of Marlborough's upcoming community passion play have hailed locals for their support after receiving vast amounts of clothing to help with the production's costumes.

Thanks to the efforts of 10 volunteers, who answered the organisers' call to help with sewing the costumes that residents donated, 75 per cent of the costumes have now been completed ahead of the play that takes place on April 15.

Production manager David Wylie was full of praise for the helpers and the rest of the town for getting behind the project so enthusiastically.

"The response we have had has been fantastic. People have responded to our plea for materials and helpers magnificently and for that we are so grateful," he said.

"We have had 10 or so people volunteer to be seamstresses and they have put together some brilliant stuff in their own time. If people could donate some more headscarves and stall holders too on the day that would be great.

"To receive all this support is brilliant. It is very reassuring to know that the community have got behind this project and are so happy to help out."

The project received a further boost this week after a £4,000 grant that they applied for from the Passion Trust to help with their sound system came through.

"It is all coming together nicely and the excitement just continues to build. It should be a wonderful spectacle and I for one cannot wait," added Mr Wylie.

More than 1,500 people are expected to attend the Easter Saturday play, which looks at the last days of Jesus Christ, his crucifixion and resurrection, which will take place in The Parade from 4pm.

The road will be closed from 10.30am-7.30pm. For more information visit https://marlboroughpassion.uk/indexsecure.asp
