DOZENS of Marlborough residents made their voices heard when they took to the town hall's steps for a climate change demonstration on Saturday.

Residents from the town, along with thousands of other demonstrators across the country, took part in the Climate Coalitions' nationwide effort to raise awareness of this issue.

At the request of the rally's organisers, Transition Marlborough’s Climate Group and the Marlborough group of Citizen’s Climate Lobby, many locals brought their own version of the coalition's green heart, inscribed with messages about showing the love for the planet.

"We were thrilled to welcome so many ardent supporters from around the Marlborough area. It was a brilliant demonstration and one that everyone really enjoyed," said Judy Hindley, of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby.

"So many committed locals braved the particularly gruesome weather on Saturday to show the love for a threatened world.

"The Marlborough area has a vibrant history of climate action and by joining under the umbrella of The Climate Coalition, we know we can make our voices heard, and our energy resonate. If we face it, we can fix it.

"This is such an important issue and we are delighted that so many answered the call from local environmental groups. I was anxious about the weather but it turned out fine."

The National Climate Coalition, which has over 100 member groups and a combined supporter base of 15 million, is an umbrella organisation for organisations working in tackling Climate Change.

It focuses on ending the use of coal, encouraging better home insulation and some of its members include Friends of the Earth and Christian Aid.
