PUBGOERS of Ogbourne St George's The Inn with the Well have helped to raise more than £2,000 in aid of a radiotherapy appeal and a cancer charity.

Over the course of last year, the pub, in Marlborough Road, put on charity auctions, raffles, quizzes and other fundraisers for children's cancer charity, Fat Boys, and the Brighter Futures Appeal, which is raising money for a new radiotherapy centre at Swindon's Great Western Hospital.

On Tuesday, landlords Megan and Mike Shaw gleefully handed over cheques of £1,400 to fundraising manager for Brighter Futures, Chloe Thomas, and £820 to Mickey Reece from the cancer charity, to cap off a successful 2016.

"We want to say a big thank you to all our locals who turned up to all the fundraisers we put on. To raise more than £2,000 is a great achievement," said Mrs Shaw.

"These are two great causes and we are delighted to help in anyway we can. We have such a generous community and once again they have delivered.

"We have been doing this for years now but this is definitely our best haul yet."

Ms Thomas, fundraising manager for Brighter Futures, said: "We are blown away with the support from the Inn with the Well donation and would like to thank all the staff and customers who have support the cause all year.

"Without local companies, venues getting involved and spreading the message we would not be where we are today.

"Thank you to everyone who donated or worked to put the events on. Together we will bring cancer care closer."
