THE Marlborough Downs: A Space for Nature project is once again indebted to the company Cardwave after it donated more than £600 to go towards its tree planting initiative.
This week, the Devizes-based technology services firm gave the project a helping hand with the donation by buying trees to allow the nature group to finish off their wildlife corridor at Rockley.
Last year Cardwave provided nearly 700 trees to cover around 130sq m of planting area for the scheme and this year’s donation will help to complete the 730m wildlife corridor along the boundary between Temple Farm and Rockley Manor Estate.
Jemma Batten, who manages the Space for Nature project, said: “I am really delighted that Cardwave has offered to purchase and plant another section of the corridor with saplings, canes and protective spirals and I look forward to planting with their staff in the spring.”
As well as providing a corridor for tree sparrows and other wildlife to move safely around the area, this strip of scrub will also contribute to reducing the rate of climate change through carbon storage, and help regulate run-off which will help to stop flooding of the adjacent road.
Paul Norbury, chief executive of Cardwave, added: “Cardwave takes its carbon footprint offset seriously and it is really great that we are able to raise awareness of, and support such a worthwhile local project and would encourage other companies to do the same each year.”
