COUNCILLORS Mervyn Hall and Lisa Farrell have been provisionally elected as Marlborough's mayor and deputy mayor respectively for the coming year.

At Monday's full council meeting, it was agreed that the two councillors would take up their new roles after the May elections, so long as they are voted back in to their roles.

Current deputy mayor, Coun Hall, said: "I want to thank you all for this nomination to become town mayor for this community. I am honoured to be selected to serve Marlborough and I will try my best to get re-elected in May. The current mayor has done an excellent job this year and I aspire to do the same."

Coun Farrell added: "I do not know what to say but I will try not to let the town down. I have had some great support from the council for the last few years, so thank you."

Mayor Noel Barrett-Morton, who will step down from his role in May, said: "With these two taking over the reins the town will be in a safe pair of hands. They both have tremendous integrity and that is important."
