THE Master of Marlborough College has announced that he will retire from the end of the summer term next year.

On Thursday, Jonathan Leigh revealed that he would end his role at the school next summer, by which time he will have served six years in the post by the time of his retirement.

A statement from Marlborough College said: "He has been an outstanding Master for the College and will have served six years in the post by the time of his retirement, marking the culmination of a long and distinguished career in education which includes two previous headships.

"Regarding a successor, the council of Marlborough College has established a sub-committee under the chairmanship of Lord Malloch-Brown, the chairman of council, to oversee the selection process to identify the best candidate for the next Master."
