POLICE are urging Marlborough residents to be on high alert following a suspicious incident in Lockeridge on Monday.

Just after 4pm, a man called at the door of a home in the village near to the school and offered to carry out work on their driveway.

When the owner of the house declined their offer, the man, who was wearing a hi-viz waistcoat, began to act suspiciously and appeared to show an interest in the vehicles in the driveway and the house.

The man is described as white, around 5ft 9, aged in his early 40's, with grey hair.

PC Teresa Herbert said: "Although no offences were committed, the man’s behaviour caused concerns for the homeowner.

"Our advice would always be to ensure you have taken steps to secure your home – keep doors and windows locked and do not answer the door if you are not expecting someone.

"You may also consider installing security lighting and alarms. And be a nosey neighbour – if you see or hear anybody acting suspiciously or any suspicious vehicles, take a note of the registration number and report it via 101.

"If a crime is in progress call 999. Do not report via social media or email as these are not monitored 24/7.”
