POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an 86-year-old Marlborough woman died following a five-car pile up last week in Hungerford.

At around 5pm on December 8, a white Skoda Yeti collided with a brown Honda Jazz, a red Mercedes Sprinter van, a white Ford Focus and a blue Skoda Fabia before colliding with the wall of a Tesco supermarket in Everland Road.

The front passenger of the Skoda Yeti sustained serious injuries and was taken to Swindon's Great Western Hospital, where she died the next day. Her family have been informed.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his eighties, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Thames Valley Police and emergency services attended the collision.

Investigating officer PC Steve Dowding, from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, said: "Roads Policing officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision.

"I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision who has not already spoken to police as they may have information which could help officers who are making enquiries in relation to this collision."

Anyone with information should call PC Dowding via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101 quoting URN 1101 8/12.
