GCSE Textile students from Bradon Forest School saw their latest project come to life when they were helped out by a group of enthusiastic young models.

Year 6 pupils from St Mary’s Primary School in Purton, which is linked to the secondary school, volunteered to help out the GCSE artists by modelling their latest work, a collection of young girls’ dresses all made from pillowcases.

GCSE Textile student Mia Buckingham said: “I looked to the autumn colours for my dress and am really pleased with how the leaves turned out. It was great to have the freedom to try different techniques and incorporate our own ideas.”

The dresses are a project which the students have been working on as practice for their final GCSE pieces, which will be submitted and assessed before being awarded a grade. Their ideas have involved laser cuttings, patchworking, heat transfers, embellishments and many more skilled techniques, which have turned ordinary pillowcases into a piece of wearable art.

Bradon Forest teacher Mrs Bone said: “I am so impressed with their creations. They all did such a fantastic job, and it has been wonderful to see them modelled, rather than on a hanger. It really brings it to life and also serves to highlight areas which may need extra attention when it comes to their GCSE pieces.”

Bradon Forest School would like to thank all the year 6 girls from St. Mary’s Primary School and also Mrs Duffy and Mrs Howse for making it possible.
