PUPILS from seven schools in the Marlborough area were treated to a special visit to London, being shown around the heart of the British Government.
The pupils from Easton Royal Academy, Ogbourne School, St Katharine’s in Pewsey, Burbage, Oare, Baydon and Chilton Foliat were taken by coach to the capital to be shown round the sights of the city, specifically the Government landmarks.
Allison Davies, a teacher at Oare, said: “It was a fantastic trip. Six of our pupils from the school council were given tours round the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Downing Street and the Horse Guards. The children loved it, it was a really interesting day for them to take part in.”
The Parliament trip in September, organised by Burbage Primary School and led by head teacher Nicola Coupe, started a two years ago and has proved to be a popular event for the local schools in the Marlborough Area Education Partnership (MAEP).
Mrs Coupe said: “This is the second year we have done the trip, it was brilliant. It was all arranged through Claire Perry’s team. Each school had about six pupils from their school councils attend. The pupils’ ages ranged from Year 1 to Year 6. It was nice for the schools to all mix and the children to socialise.
“All of them had a wonderful time. Our guide even pointed that the kids were all great listeners and showed a real interest in the tour. It is something we would definitely be interested in doing on an annual basis from now on.”
