A SPECIAL event has been organised to raise money for a trust which was set up after the death of an ex-Marlborough College student with a selection of famous faces set to perform.

The fundraising event, organised by the Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust, is at Marlborough College on October 2, to raise money for the trust. Singer/songwriter Imelda May, trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins and screen and stage actor Michael Pennington will all be appearing.

Callum McGeoch, 42, of Chiswick, former school friend of Mr Pryce’s and member of the trust’s committee, said: “One of Tom's Trust's goals is to work with our partner organisations to provide educational and vocational training opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access to them, in the hope that they too can achieve their potential and lead rewarding lives.

“Another goal is to help tackle the root causes of violent gang culture and violent street crime. All donations made to Tom's Trust are used to ensure that as much good as possible ensues from his tragic and senseless death.”

Tom ap Rhys Pryce, a London lawyer, was killed during a mugging on January 12, 2006, whilst he was walking home from Kensal Green tube station. Mr Pryce, who was 31 and engaged at the time, was attacked by two teenagers in an attempted robbery when he was stabbed in the chest.

Soon after Tom’s parents, Estella and John Pryce, Tom’s fiancé Adele Eastman and his employer Linklaters LLP, established the charity.

“Tom was a scholar of music and an incredibly happy young man. He later went to Cambridge and went on to be a very successful young lawyer in London. He was killed by two teenage muggers, it was a street robbery that went really wrong. It was such a massive shock and a high profile story, and a lot of people wanted to do something to the trust was set up,” added Mr McGeoch.

The event is promising to be an uplifting afternoon of jazz, classical music, poetry and celebration, remembering the life of Mr Pryce.

"We are very fortunate that such internationally revered stars have agreed to lend their talents and that Marlborough College has generously provided the historic Memorial Hall. It promises to be a wonderful afternoon of music and story-telling, we hope it will be a full house," added Mr McGeoch.

"Old Marlburian Crispian Steele-Perkins is the finest classical trumpet soloist in the world and famously played on the theme tunes for the Antiques Roadshow, For Your Eyes Only and the The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Michael Pennington's epic list of TV, movie and stage credits stretches from co-founding the English Shakespeare Company, acting in Return of The Jedi and almost every classic TV drama of the last four decades, to his recent acclaimed one man tour of King Lear. He will be sharing memories and tales from across his career as well as his school days at Marlborough. Dublin born singer songwriter Imelda May has released four hugely acclaimed hit albums that span rockabilly, jazz, soul and blues, built up a global fanbase, toured the world and performed regularly on TV including the 2014 series opening of Strictly Come Dancing with Motown legend Smokey Robinson," Mr McGeoch said.

The gala starts at 3pm. Tickets for the charity gala cost £20 each and are available from http://www.marlburianclub.org/club-pages/club-events
