HUGHENDEN Yard in Marlborough welcomed another famous act, just days after Izzy Bizu delivered a memorable performance to a hundred-strong crowd.

Modern country music duo Ward Thomas played to a crowd of 150 people at Sound Knowledge on Thursday (September 8), bringing their own Hampshire sound to the audience.

Roger Mortimer, manager of Sound Knowledge, said: “It was a brilliant event, it was really well attended which was great because it was organised with very short notice. Ward Thomas are very busy at the moment with the media, they gave a brilliant performance. The came in to the shop to meet people afterwards, they are charming ladies, you can see why they are where they are at the moment.”

Ward Thomas, made up of 22-year-old twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas, started their journey in the music business in 2012 but are now featuring in the album charts and regularly making appearances on television.

The duo's album Cartwheels also beat Jamie T's new album Trick to number one in the album charts on Friday (September 9).

Sam Robinson, 25, assistant manager of Sound Knowledge, said: "It is great news for them to reach number one. To have a number one artist here is great, they are really talented girls and they have fantastic voices."

As well as appearances from Izzy Bizu and Ward Thomas, Mr Mortimer is excited about the upcoming performances which will be taking place at the end of the month, including a special comeback from British ska, pop, soul, reggae and punk fusion band The Beat. After 30 years, the band will be unveiling their brand new album Bounce as well as performing for the lucky crowd.

“We have more coming. We have a new artist who is going to be playing on September 25 called Billie Marten. She is only 17 but she is a very talented singer/songwriter. Then the following week we have the legends The Beat who will be releasing their first album in 30 years at our store. The Beat will be performing on September 30,” added Mr Mortimer.

Both of the upcoming events are free to the public, but Mr Mortimer advises people to call the shop on 01672 511106 before both of the performances.
