A HOSTEL in St Margaret's Mead in Marlborough has been put up for auction without the knowledge of Marlborough Town Council.
Councillors were shocked to discover that the house, which is owned by Aster, had been closed and put up for sale without any consultation at the Town Council meeting on Monday (September 5). The building, which has been used for nearly 20 years, was used for accommodation for homeless people from across Wiltshire.
Councillors Mervyn Hall, Marlborough Town Council, said: "It was raised at the council meeting on Monday and it was the first anyone had heard about it. It has been up and running for what must be 20 years now, it came as quite a shock."
On September 15 the house will be put up for auction by Allsop, a company which deals with private property auction, with a starting price of £450,000.
