A RAMSBURY family are lacing up their walking shoes in preparation for a 60-mile journey which will take them from their village to Windsor, raising money for a number of different causes.

The family, including mother Amanda Horner, husband Graeme Fearon, 10-year-old James, six-year-old Josie and grandparents Colin and Jane Fearon and Chris Horner, will be spending the October half term taking part in the journey to raise money for CLIC Sargent, the Alzheimer’s Society, the Leukaemia Charity, the Queen’s Choral Foundation and Friends of the Holy Cross Church in Ramsbury.

Mrs Horner said: “We will be doing the walk in six weeks. We have been training and gradually building the distance up each time. The 60 miles will be covered in four days. It is a fair distance for little people so we intend to take it easy. It will be me, my husband and two children, and three of the kids’ grandparents, so it will be a real family occasion. The kids’ grandmother Jane has dementia and she loves going for walks, so that is how we decided to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.”

The walk will start from the Holy Cross Church in Ramsbury and will pass by Littlecote House, Greenham Common and the Roman ruins at Silchester en route to James’ school in Windsor. James and his father Graeme will be walking the whole distance, but will have support from the rest of the family.

“James is a chorister at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle so he boards there during the week. We will be following the A4 during the walk but intend to stay off the main roads as much as possible,” added Mrs Horner.

James will be walking to school for the first time, unlike his sister who walks to her school in Ramsbury daily.

James said: “I am excited to do it, it is the only walk I will have done over four days. We have done one stage of the training when we walked to Axford, but there is still loads to do. We decided it would be nice for me to walk to school as Josie does every day.”
