THE area ranger of Lockeridge Dene National Trust is tasking herself with the removal of the Ragwort problem which is cursing the area.

Loretta Waters has been given the job to try and rid the Ragwort blight from the National Trust site just outside of Marlborough. As the removal will take a lot of work, Mrs Waters is appealing for volunteers to roll their sleeves up and help her.

Mrs Waters said: “We’ve had a couple of sessions at removing the ragwort, however it’s a large area and despite removing over 150 bags so far there is still a lot to do- it ideally needs many hands to get to work on it. It would be wonderful if I could persuade a few people, or better still, an army of people, to come along and help me.”

The next session for the Ragwort removal will be taking place over the next week, so anyone who may be interested in helping is invited to come along and help. The weed, which is poisonous to cattle and horses, is in dire need to be removed before causing any risk to the health of the animals nearby the site.

“The next day for ragwort pulling is on August 22 and I’d be absolutely delighted if anyone can come along and help. No experience is needed, just give me a call on 01672 539672 or come along on the day,” added Mrs Waters.
