RESIDENTS of Marlborough are being warned about burglars after two people claiming to be from the NHS attempted to burgle a house in Aldbourne.

A homeowner in Farm Lane, Aldbourne, answered her door to two people who said they were from the NHS on Thursday (August 4) at 5.45pm. The couple told the elderly woman they had visited to test her mobility, asking her to walk to the kitchen. Whilst the lady was doing this, the two burglars searched through the house, damaged an upstairs door in an attempt to get into a locked bedroom and then left. Nothing was stolen from the house.

Sgt Christian Wells, of the Marlborough and Pewsey Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “This was a shameful and cowardly crime where the suspects preyed on a vulnerable member of the community in their own home. Local residents of all ages are advised not to open the door, or grant access to any unknown or unexpected visitors.

“If you are unsure, always check ID thoroughly, telephone the organisation the visitor claims to be representing, and if possible seek advice from a trusted neighbour or relative. Fortunately, on this occasion nobody was harmed and nothing was stolen but I’m sure the incident was traumatic for the victim nonetheless.”

Anyone who may have any information about this or any similar crimes is asked to call Wiltshire Police on “101”, or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
