THE appeal by Aster Housing to build two semi-detached homes in Newby Acre, Marlborough, has been dismissed by the site inspector.

After filing an appeal to build the two new homes in the residential area, the Aster Group has had its appeal denied following an inspection by Andy Harwood on behalf of the secretary of states for communities and local government.

In the report filed by Mr Harwood it states: “The main issues are the effect of the proposed pair of dwellings upon the character and appearance of the area. The effect of the proposal upon green infrastructure and the effect of the proposal upon the living conditions of the nearest residential property at No 47 Newby Acre, with respect to outlook.”

The appeal, which was lodged in June of this year, sparked outrage from the residents of Newby Acre and town councillors alike, as it would see the vital parking and green spaces built over with the two new houses. A petition was created by the residents with over 100 signatures as well as 45 letters of objection being sent to Wiltshire Council.

The report continues to state: “In relation to the first main issue, the proposed pair of dwellings would have a harmful impact upon the character and appearance of the area. In this respect, the proposal would not comply with Policy 57 of the Wiltshire Core Strategy, adopted January 2015 (CS).”
