TWO pets have died following a fire which started in the first floor bedroom of a home in Mildenhall.

The owner of the house in Thicketts Road, believed to be in her 70s, reported the fire to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Services at 11.05pm yesterday (Sunday July 31) evening.

Two fire crews, one from Marlborough and the other from Ramsbury, rushed to the scene, joined by a Red Cross support van from Swindon.

The crews saved the life of one guinea pig but were too late to save the other two which died from smoke inhalation. The owner of the house was uninjured.

Four breathing apparatus crew members tackled the blaze with two hose reel jets as well as ventilation pumps to clear the smoke from the house.

Cause of the fire is still unknown but is thought to be a result of faulty electrics in the bedroom.
