FOLLOWING a report that has been published online, the road closures for the Marlborough Jazz Festival have been brought into question.

After a rejection of the proposed road closures starting from 10am, Wiltshire Council issued a report stating that any closures would begin from 5pm tomorrow (Saturday 16).

Now, according to the report, the Marlborough Arts Association has rejected the proposal after feeling like it didn't go far enough and that the public's safety has been disregarded, meaning that any road closures may now be potentially stopped.

A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said: "We do understand the concerns, but we do have to balance the needs of all local people and businesses as well as those of anyone travelling through the town. We’ve previously organised meetings between traders and the organisers of the festival so both sides could try to come to an agreement.

“Businesses have said they are satisfied with the 5pm closure so we requested the organisers revise their event plan for earlier in the day as a compromise. We are satisfied with the risk assessment we carried out and have now issued the temporary road closure after 5pm and it will be for the organisers to decide whether they implement this closure on the day.”
