A ROYAL themed party took place at the Kennet Valley Hall in Lockeridge to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, organised by the Marlborough Mencap committee.

Over 50 people attended the hall in Lockeridge Lane to take part in the festivities alongside the members of Mencap who spent the past couple of months organising the community party.

Susan Bailey, 70, of Rogers Meadow in Marlborough, one of the organisers, said: “The party was fantastic, we usually do a summer and a Christmas party every year and this year we decided to make the royal theme to tie in with the Queen’s birthday. We had between 50-55 people attend which was lower than we thought, but it was also Father’s Day so people were probably out doing things for that.”

Organised by Mrs Bailey and Jackie and Ray Bundy, the party boasted decorations and food all covered with Union Jacks and a live performance from a three-piece band.

“We organised the party together, there was a lot of work done to make it happen but we like doing it, I think we get more out of it than the people who attend because we love it when people have a good time,” added Mrs Bailey.

“We had cakes with Union Jacks on, Union Jack tablecloths, flags and other decorations. We also had three men play music for the first hour, they did it for free as well which was lovely. We paid for all of this with the help of Marlborough Town Council which donated £200 as it was a Queen’s celebration.”
