WITH the school year coming to an end the Year 11 pupils of St John’s Academy in Marlborough all arrived in their finest to celebrate their prom.

The pupils of St John’s flooded the school grounds on Friday in an array of different ways to come together and mark the end of their school year, some of whom celebrating the last time they will be at the school apart from when they receive their GCSE results next month.

Lucy Bennet, Red College Principal and organiser of the prom, said: “The students and staff had a fantastic time. There was a real buzz surrounding the event and it was a great way for students to end Year 11. Students opted for a variety of vehicles to arrive in and these included a speed boat, sports cars, tractors, military vehicles and many more. As the students arrived Mrs Edmondson, the head, opened the doors and welcomed them which was great."

No matter how they turned up all the students got to walk the red carpet in style. Appealing to their sweet side, the pupils were given a range of treats by the organisers of the prom.

“Students had ice-cream and sweets from Garbanzo Sweet Cart hire, a chocolate fountain, red carpet treatment and fireworks at 10pm. There was also an awards ceremony with Oscar-type prizes. We had people fill out nomination forms before the prom and announced all the winners on the night.

“Everyone stayed to the end which was lovely, usually a few of them leave to go to parties. They all stayed to watch the fireworks which were fantastic. Half of Marlborough probably saw them too,” added Mrs Bennet.
